Guishan Walled Building Complex

The Guishan Walled Building Complex is located in the center of Guishan Village, Guishan Administrative District, Longwo Town, Zijin County. Constructed in the 45th year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1780), it covers an area of over 10,000 square meters. It is a group of Hakka-style walled buildings built with granite strips and blue bricks. Facing south and situated to the north, the structure stands six stories high. The first and second floors are built with granite stone strips, while the third to sixth floors feature thick walls made of large blue bricks, with wall thickness reaching 1.3 meters. In front of the main building lies a three-courtyard complex with 41 housing units. On the left and right sides of the courtyard are 4-meter-wide lanes as well as two side buildings—the East Side Building and the West Side Building—that face the courtyard and are connected to each other, containing a total of 70 housing units. Outside the main gate to the south is a gate courtyard paved with crushed stones mixed with lime. Beyond the gate courtyard is a pond. On both sides of the pond are the East Gate and the West Gate, which serve as the main entrances to the walled building complex. Behind the main building and the east and west side buildings, there is an open area of about 1,000 square meters enclosed by an outer wall. From the Qing Dynasty to the Republican era, this was the largest and tallest walled building complex in Zijin County.
