Former Site of the Hailu-Zi Soviet Government

The Former Site of the Hailu-Zi Soviet Government is a cultural relic protection unit of Zijin County, a classic red tourism attraction, and a base for patriotic education.

The Former Site of the Hailu-Zi Soviet Government is located at Baoshan Building in Chixi Village, Suqu Town, Zijin County. Built in the late Qing Dynasty, the structure has a rectangular layout, five stories in height, with watchtowers at each corner and an enclosing wall. Constructed with brick and wood, it covers a floor area of 990 square meters.

On December 15, 1930, the Hailu-Zi (Hai’feng–Lufeng–Zijin) Soviet Government was established, electing Lin Tanji, Yang Pei, Zeng Tian, Zhong Yiqiang, and Chen Yinnan to the presidium. Starting in the spring of 1931, the government operated from this site, leading the agrarian revolution across Hai’feng, Lufeng, Zijin, and Gaotan District of Huiyang, enabling farmers to receive land redistribution for the second time. Joy filled every household. Songs could be heard everywhere: “After a thousand years, the iron tree blooms red flowers; after ten thousand years, the land returns to its home; our liberation depends on the Communist Party, not on heaven’s officials or earth gods.” For four consecutive harvests, bountiful yields were achieved. During this period, Dai Yaotian, a special envoy for rural movements in the province, established the Hailu-Zi Battlefield Training Institute here, training over 300 military cadres who were later dispatched to Red Army companies as platoon leaders, thereby enhancing the combat effectiveness of the Red Army.

The site remains relatively well-preserved.

In January 1987, it was designated as a cultural relic protection unit by the Zijin County Government. In January 1994, it was recognized as a patriotic education base by the Zijin County Committee and County Government. In November 2010, it was designated as a patriotic education base by the Heyuan Municipal Committee and Municipal Government. In June 2011, it was recognized as a patriotic education base by the Guangdong Provincial Propaganda Department.
