Former Site of the Red Second Army Division Headquarters

The former site of the Red Second Army Division Headquarters is a cultural relic protection unit of Zijin County, a classic red tourism attraction, and a patriotic education base.

The former site of the headquarters and party representative office of the Second Division of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Army is located at Fuxing Building in Paizi Village, Suxi Town, Hesu County. Initially built in the late Qing Dynasty, it covers an area of over 1,000 square meters and has a construction area of more than 300 square meters. It was rebuilt in 2011.

In October 1927, some of the forces that retreated from the “August 1st” Nanchang Uprising to the Hailu-Huizhou-Zijin region were reorganized into the Second Division of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Army (referred to as the Red Second Division) under the leadership of the Dongjiang Special Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. That same month, the Red Second Division entered Zijin, setting up its headquarters and the party representative’s office in Fuxing Building in Paizi. Division Commander Dong Lang and Party Representative Yan Changyi commanded armed struggles here, delivering heavy blows to opposing armed forces. In March 1928, due to a full-scale “encirclement and suppression” campaign launched by the Kuomintang reactionary forces, the Red Second Division, together with the Red Guards, defended the county committee, the county Soviet government, and the local people as they evacuated from Paizi and transferred safely. They later continued guerrilla warfare across Hui, Lu, Huizhou, Zijin, and Wuhua counties, repeatedly thwarting the Kuomintang’s “encirclement and suppression” campaigns and making tremendous contributions to defending the revolutionary base areas.

In January 1977, it was designated as a key cultural relic protection unit by the Zijin County Government. In January 1994, it was announced as a patriotic education base by the Zijin County Party Committee and County Government. In November 2010, it was listed as a patriotic education base by the Heyuan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. In June 2011, it was designated as a patriotic education base by the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee Propaganda Department.
