Former Site of the CPC Dongjiang Special Committee

The Former Site of the CPC Dongjiang Special Committee is a cultural heritage site under the protection of Zijin County and a classic destination for red tourism.

The Former Site of the CPC Dongjiang Special Committee is located at the New Study Hall of the Chen Family Ancestral Hall in Guzhu Town, Zijin County. The ancestral hall was built during the Qing Dynasty, featuring a courtyard-style layout, brick-and-wood construction, a flush gable roof, and covers a floor area of 989 square meters. The New Study Hall is a two-story building constructed with blue bricks, covering an area of 237 square meters.

In March 1939, the Party congresses of the counties in Dongjiang were held at the New Study Hall in Guzhu Town, Zijin. The meetings were addressed by Li Dalin, head of the Organization Department of the Provincial Party Committee, who conveyed and implemented the directives from the Sixth Plenary Session of the Sixth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Fourth Expanded Executive Committee Meeting of the Provincial Party Committee. Discussions focused on the development of party organizations in Dongjiang counties, the establishment of the anti-Japanese national united front, launching the anti-Japanese salvation movement, waging guerrilla warfare behind enemy lines, and other issues. During the meeting, the CPC Dongjiang Special Committee was established. Its office was set up in the Chen Family Ancestral Hall, with Lin Ping serving as the secretary. It governed county-level party committees in Zijin, Wuhua, Longchuan, Heping, Boluo, Haifeng-Lufeng, Zengcheng, and Longmen, as well as the Work Committee of Heyuan County. In June 1940, the county-level party committees of Huiyang, Dongguan, and Bao’an were also transferred from the Southeast Special Committee to be under the leadership of the Dongjiang Special Committee. From then on, the counties of Dongjiang quickly launched the anti-Japanese salvation movement and began armed struggle.

In 1987, the People’s Government of Zijin County designated it as a cultural heritage protection unit.

Guzhu Town: Guzu Town is located in the western part of Zijin County, on the eastern bank of the middle reaches of the Dongjiang River, facing Boluo County, Huicheng District of Huizhou City, and Yuancheng District of Heyuan City across the river.
