The former residence of Deng Zuoxian is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province, a classic red tourism attraction, and a base for patriotic education.

The former residence of Deng Zuoxian is located in Buxin Village, Lantang Town, Zijin County, Heyuan City. It was built in 1780 during the Qing Dynasty and is over 230 years old. Deng Zuoxian was the first person from Guangdong to be sent to support Xinjiang in a century-long effort. He served on the frontier in Xinjiang for 18 years, holding positions as the magistrate of five counties: Wusu, Yecheng, Shufu, Moyu, and Bachu. He had lofty ideals and was deeply patriotic, loved the people, cared for Xinjiang, and governed with integrity and diligence. He worked tirelessly to serve the people of Xinjiang, particularly benefiting the local Uyghur communities in southern Xinjiang for many years. He used writing to document history and protect the region, compiling two local chronicles that pioneered the writing of regional histories in Xinjiang. Deng Zuoxian died — sacrificing heroically while serving on the frontier.

The Deng Zuoxian Patriotic and Clean Government Education Base consists of multiple clean governance cultural sites, including the former residence of Deng Zuoxian, the Deng Zuoxian Memorial Hall, the Deng Zuoxian Statue Square, and the Qingfeng Corridor. These allow visiting Party members and cadres to be subtly influenced by clean governance culture and consciously strengthen their awareness of integrity.

In November 2011, the former residence of Deng Zuoxian was listed as a county-level key cultural relic protection unit. In February 2013, it was listed as a city-level key cultural relic protection unit. In May 2013, the Heyuan City Deng Zuoxian Patriotic Education Base and the Heyuan City Deng Zuoxian Anti-Corruption and Integrity Historical Education Base were officially established.

Deng Zuoxian (1875–?), styled Qizhou, was a native of Buxin Village, Lantang Town, Zijin County. He passed the imperial examination to become a Xiucai at the age of 13 and was well-read in classics and history, especially skilled in poetry and prose. He once served as the head of the local assembly in his county. In the early years of the Republic of China, he went to Beijing to take an examination for county administrative talent and was appointed as the magistrate of Yecheng County in Xinjiang. During his tenure, he taught locals how to build waterwheels to irrigate farmland, promoting agricultural development in the border region. He served for over ten years with remarkable achievements and earned widespread public support. He later died in an incident involving the Hui people.
