Martyrs' Memorial Pavilion of Gong Yuanxiang

The Martyrs' Memorial Pavilion of Gong Yuanxiang is located in Kengjiao Group, Liuhu Village, Baipu Town, Zijin County.

Gong Yuanxiang, originally named Liu Qiulu and also known as Liu Xiangxin, was born in 1902 into a poor farming family in Hemutian Village, Cheqian Township, Huangtang District, Zijin County. Due to extreme poverty, his parents had no choice but to sell their only child to Gong Baohua, a scholar from Baipu, who adopted him and renamed him Gong Yuanxiang. In 1924, Gong Yuanxiang and others established a farmers' association in Baipu, organizing peasant militias to fight against local despots and gentry. In April 1927, he led the Baipu peasant militia in the “April 26 Uprising” in Zijin. In November 1929, he was elected as a member of the CPC Zihé Special Committee. In January 1930, he served as the organizational committee member of the Gushi District Committee, working diligently along the Dongjiang River. On the eve of the Spring Festival in 1931, while working in Liaokeng, Guzhu, Gong Yuanxiang hurried home to mourn his beloved mother. Due to betrayal by a traitor, he was unfortunately arrested and imprisoned. In May 1930, he heroically sacrificed himself on the banks of Qiuxiang River in the county seat at the age of 30.

To commemorate Martyr Gong Yuanxiang, in June 2004, the People's Government of Baipu Town built the Martyrs' Memorial Pavilion of Gong Yuanxiang, covering an area of over 100 square meters.

Baipu Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Zijin County. It was split from the former Tenth District of Zijin County to form the Baipu Commune in 1958, became a district in 1983, and was established as a town in 1987. Located in the northwest of the county, it covers an area of 132.2 square kilometers with a population of 27,000. The town government is stationed in Baipu Market, about 48 kilometers southeast of the county seat, with the Zijin–Heyuan Highway passing through. It administers 16 management areas: Yongfeng, Yangkeng, Meizhong, Futian, Fanghu, Qunxing, Liangdong, Fuxing, Limin, Nanchang, Xinfeng, Dalu, Xiaolu, Gekuang, Dongsheng, and Dongfang, as well as the Baipu Neighborhood Committee.
