The Monument to Martyrs Zhu Yi and Zhu Bao is located in Yongkeng Village, Suqu Town, beside the Zihai Road. Zhu Yi (1864–1928), a native of Suqu in Zijin, served as the head of the Pingtang Township Farmers' Association in 1924. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1927 and became the chairman of the Pingtang Township Soviet Government. In March 1928, he led the Red Guards to resist the Nationalist army’s “encirclement and suppression” of the Soviet area at Gongcunzhang, covering the safe evacuation of local civilians. Eventually, facing ammunition and reinforcement exhaustion, he jumped off a cliff and died a heroic death. Zhu Bao (1892–1928), also from Suqu in Zijin, joined the farmers' association in 1924 and served as captain of the township Peasant Self-Defense Corps. In 1927, he participated in the “April 26” armed uprising in Zijin, later serving as captain of the Chiguard Battalion's Township Standing Team, and joined the Communist Party of China that same year. In March 1928, during the Nationalist army’s offensive on the Soviet area, he led his team in holding Gongcunzhang until their ammunition ran out, was captured by the enemy, and died a martyr’s death.

In January 2009, it was designated as a key cultural relic protection unit by the Zijin County Government. In March 2009, it was announced as a patriotic education base by the Zijin County Party Committee and County Government. In November 2010, it was listed as a patriotic education base by the Heyuan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. In June 2011, it was recognized as a patriotic education base by the Publicity Department of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee.
