Monument to Martyr Zhong Yipeng

The Monument to Martyr Zhong Yipeng is a cultural relic protection unit of Zijin County, a classic red tourism attraction, and a patriotic education base.

The Monument to Martyr Zhong Yipeng is located in Paizi Village, Suqu Town.

Zhong Yipeng (1900–1931), a native of Paizi in Suqu, Zijin, was elected vice president of the Paizi Township Peasant Association and captain of the township peasant army self-defense unit in April 1923. He joined the Communist Party of China in December 1925, and in the spring of 1928 was appointed deputy commander of the Second Brigade of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Army in Zijin. In 1931, he was arrested due to the betrayal of an informant and later executed.

The Monument to Martyr Zhong Yipeng was first built in 1976 and rebuilt in 2011, covering an area of over 100 square meters.

In January 2009, it was designated as a key cultural relic protection unit by the Zijin County Government. In March 2009, it was announced as a patriotic education base by the Zijin County Party Committee and County Government. In November 2010, it was designated as a patriotic education base by the Heyuan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. In June 2011, it was listed as a patriotic education base by the Propaganda Department of the Guangdong Provincial Committee.
