Former Residence of Zhang Ziyu

The former residence of Zhang Ziyu is located in Shanzi Bei, Paozi Village, Soviet Area Town, Zijin County.

Zhang Ziyu (1899–1928) initiated the establishment of the first peasant association in Zijin County—the Paozi Township Peasant Association—in 1923, serving as its director, and joined the Chinese Communist Party in 1925. In 1927, he organized the peasants' self-defense army of southern Zijin to take part in the April 26 Uprising. In March 1928, he lost contact with his unit during an escape in Luofeng, Luofu, and returned to Paozi to gather personnel, quickly reviving revolutionary activities in the Soviet Area. He commanded Red Guards in continuing guerrilla operations. In August, he was captured due to betrayal by a traitor, endured severe torture, but never revealed any Communist secrets. He was executed in October at the age of 29.

This house was built during the Republican era, facing east with a west orientation. It has three rooms over two courtyards, with side wings at both ends (the left wing was converted into a lean-to shed). The structure spans 24.8 meters in width and 12.8 meters in depth. It features a purlin and gable wall construction, a flush-gable roof, and gray tiles. The first courtyard has 11 purlins, while the second has 15. The central bay of the main hall was destroyed during the Great Revolution period.
