Former Site of the Landmine Factory

The former site of the landmine factory is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

In December 1942, to combat the Japanese invasion and set up an anti-Japanese guerrilla base in the enemy's rear, Zeng Xuexiu, the squadron leader of the Dongjiang Detachment of the Guangdong People’s Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Forces, followed orders from Zeng Sheng to return to Shangyi, Zijin. Together with Zeng Fan, he recruited over 80 youths to join the army and established the Shangyi Local Anti-Japanese Regular Battalion. They also set up a landmine production facility at the Guan Di Temple to support the resistance movement. In February 1945, the Shangyi Local Anti-Japanese Regular Battalion was reorganized into the Zijin Independent Battalion, the 7th Detachment of the Dongjiang Column, with Zeng Xuexiu serving as the political instructor and Zeng Fan as the battalion commander.

The site faces north and is situated to the south. It consists of three bays in two rows, with side rooms at both ends and an open courtyard in the front. The total width is 11.7 meters, and the depth is 12.2 meters. It has a flush-gable roof, gray tiles, brick walls, and a stone foundation.

In March 1994, it was designated as a patriotic education base by the Zijin County Committee and County Government.

Shangyi Town is located in the southwestern part of Zijin County, at 114°48′ east longitude and 23°17′ north latitude, covering an area of 173 square kilometers. It borders Lantang Town of Zijin County to the east, Songkeng Town of Huidong County to the south, Dalan Town of Huicheng District, Huizhou City, to the west, and Haoyi Town and Feng’an Town to the north.

Shangyi Town is situated along the upper and middle reaches of the Shangyi River, a tributary of the Qiuxiang River. The terrain is distributed in a strip-like pattern along both sides of the Shangyi River. The land is higher in the east and west but lower in the north and south, surrounded by mountains on all sides and sloping from the northwest to the southeast, forming a long, narrow area shaped like a boat.
