Trench Ruins

The Trench Ruins are a classic site of red tourism.

The Trench Ruins are located on the hill behind the office building of Paizi Village Committee in Suqu Town.

Constructed between 1928 and 1930 by the peasant self-defense army and the Red Army of Zijin County to defend against the “encirclement and suppression” by the Kuomintang forces and local landlord militias, the site witnessed fierce battles between them and their adversaries. The trenches run roughly east–west, stretching over 30 meters in length, 1.5 meters in width, and varying in depth from 0.5 to 1 meter.

In April 2008, they were designated as a Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the Zijin County Government. In January 2009, they were recognized as a Patriotic Education Base by the Zijin County Party Committee and County Government. In November 2010, they were listed as a Patriotic Education Base by the Heyuan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. In June 2011, they were designated as a Patriotic Education Base by the Publicity Department of the Guangdong Provincial Committee.
