Zijin Red Army Pavilion

The Zijin Red Army Pavilion is a cultural relic protection unit of Zijin County, a classic red tourism site, and a patriotic education base.

The Red Army Pavilion is located behind the committee building of Paozi Village, Suqu Town, Zijin County, Heyuan City, Guangdong Province.

In early 1928, under the leadership of the Dongjiang Special Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, the Second Red Army Brigade participated in the Dongjiang Uprising, attacking Zijin and successively capturing Nanling and Paozi. The brigade headquarters and the office of the Party representative were stationed at Fuxing Building in Paozi Township. Later, the officers and soldiers of the Second Red Army Brigade usually trained on a vast piece of wasteland. In March, the Kuomintang deployed heavy forces to “encircle and suppress” Paozi Township. Despite being heavily outnumbered, the Second Red Army Brigade, together with the local Red Guards, ensured the safe evacuation of the Zijin County Committee and the Zijin County Soviet Government offices from Paozi. They later moved through Haifeng, Lufeng, Huiyang, Zijin, and Wuhua counties to carry out guerrilla warfare, repeatedly thwarting the “encirclement and suppression” campaigns of the Kuomintang army, and made great contributions to defending the revolutionary base.

To commemorate the great achievements of the revolutionary predecessors, the People’s Government of Zijin County built a memorial pavilion on the site where the Second Red Army Brigade trained in 1956, naming it the Red Army Pavilion. It was rebuilt in 2008, featuring six red concrete columns, each 7 meters high and 2.4 meters wide, with a hexagonal hip-and-gable roof covered in gray tiles. The front plaza is paved with river pebbles, covering an area of 150 square meters.

In January 2008, it was designated as a cultural relic protection unit by the Zijin County Government. In March 2009, it was announced as a patriotic education base by the Zijin County Party Committee and County Government. In November 2010, it was designated as a patriotic education base by the Heyuan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. In June 2011, it was listed as a patriotic education base by the Publicity Department of the Guangdong Provincial Committee.
