The former site of the Red Army arsenal in Zijin is a classic red tourism attraction.

The former site of the Red Army arsenal is located in Shangjing Group, Paozi Village, Suqu Town.

In October 1927, the Nanchang Uprising troops were reorganized into the Second Red Army Division at Zhongdong. To ensure the supply of ammunition, between November and December of the same year, the “Guangdong Arsenal” was set up in a civilian house in Shangjing Village, Paozi Township, with technical management by Li Jiatao and Zhang Fuxian, and overall supervision by Zhong Ruixiang. In April 1928, the arsenal was relocated to Sanfangshi Cave in Shangjing; shortly after, it moved to Yongkeng Township in Suqu. Between May and June 1929, it was moved again to the home of Zhong Junpei in Taoyejinkuang Village, Longwo. The Paozi Red Army Arsenal operated for one year and seven months, during which it repaired hundreds of long guns and pistols, produced over 300 wooden Mauser-style pistols, manufactured more than 45,000 rounds of ammunition, and created over 60 self-made “Type 79” rifles and more than 50 single-shot Mauser pistols.

The site is one of the earliest arsenals established by our army and has been relocated four times. The original site was a civilian house built during the Qing Dynasty, which was rebuilt in 2011, covering a total area of over 100 square meters.

In January 1977, it was designated as a key cultural relics protection unit by the Zijin County Government. In March 2009, it was announced as a patriotic education base by the Zijin County Party Committee and County Government. In November 2010, it was listed as a patriotic education base by the Heyuan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. In June 2011, it was recognized as a patriotic education base by the Publicity Department of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee.
