Former Site of the Establishment of the Lan Tang Communist Party Group and the Lan Tang People’s Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Unit

The former site of the establishment of the Lan Tang Communist Party Group and the Lan Tang People’s Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Unit is a classic red tourism attraction.

The former site of the establishment of the Lan Tang Communist Party Group and the Lan Tang People’s Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Unit is located at No. 16, Guangchang Road, Lan Tang Town, Zijin County.

In January 1937, Communist Party member Pan Zuyue was dispatched by the Guangzhou Extra-District Work Committee of the Communist Party of China to return to his hometown in Zijin to rebuild the Party organization. After returning to Zijin, Pan Zuyue, under the cover of teaching, carried out Party-building activities at the County No. 2 Primary School (now Yuxin Middle School). In May, Pan Zuyue introduced Deng Ningxiang, Du Zhaoxiang, and others to join the Communist Party of China, establishing the Lan Tang Party Group, with Pan Zuyue as the leader, under the jurisdiction of the Guangzhou Extra-District Work Committee. In September, Pan Zuyue recruited over 150 patriotic individuals from society, based on teachers and students of the County No. 2 Primary School, to form the Lan Tang Masses National Salvation Corps, with Liang Yinyuan as captain and Pan Zuyue as deputy captain, to promote anti-Japanese salvation. In January 1938, the Guangzhou Extra-District Work Committee of the Communist Party of China sent additional Communist Party members, including Pan Zhichun and Lin Kun, to teach at the County No. 2 Primary School to strengthen the Party-building efforts in Lan Tang. In March, the Lan Tang Special Branch of the Communist Party of China was established, with Pan Zuyue as secretary, under the jurisdiction of the Guangzhou Extra-District Work Committee.

In November 1938, the Lan Tang People’s Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Unit was established at the County No. 2 Primary School, with Pan Zuyue as captain, and Lin Kun and Deng Zhongyan as military instructors. In February 1939, the Zijin County Committee of the Communist Party of China was established, and the Lan Tang Special Branch came under its leadership.

The original building at the site has been demolished and replaced by a junior high school, which is now Yuxin Middle School.
