Mingde Building
Mingde Building is a cultural relic protection unit of Zijin County, a classic red tourism attraction, and a patriotic education base.
The former site of the headquarters of the 49th Regiment of the 11th Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army and the establishment of the Special District Committee of the Communist Party of China for Zijin (Zi) and Heyuan (He) is located at Mingde Building, Hongqi Group, Paozi Village, Suqu Town, Zijin County. Built in the late Qing Dynasty, it was renovated in 2011.
The 49th Regiment was established at Mingde Building in October 1929, with Peng Gui as its commander, and was incorporated into the 11th Red Army in 1930. This regiment was a main force of the 11th Red Army, primarily operating in the Dongjiang and Hanjiang regions. After the victory at Linzhao in Puning, it was ordered to the Suqu area for rest and reorganization, assisting in revolutionary struggles and further consolidating the Hailuzi Revolutionary Base. Mingde Building faces southeast, with a layout of five bays and two courtyards, featuring a wing on the right side. It measures 23.6 meters in width and 13.9 meters in depth. The structure features purlin gable walls, a stone foundation, a flush gable roof, and gray tiles.
In September 1929, guerrilla warfare in the border region between Zijin and Heyuan made significant progress. In November, following instructions from the Hailuzi Special Committee of the Communist Party of China to expand the Soviet area, develop new zones, divert enemy attention, and protect the central Soviet base, the Special District Committee of the Communist Party of China for Zihe was established at Mingde Building in Shijiezi Natural Village, Shijiezi, Paozi Village, Suqu Town. Zhuang Xi served as the secretary, and it was under the jurisdiction of the Zijin County Committee of the Communist Party of China. In February 1930, it moved to Xikeng in Jili Village, Haoyi Town. From December 1930 to May 1931, it was under the leadership of the Hailuzi County Committee of the Communist Party of China. After May 1931, it came under the leadership of the Huiyang County Committee. In the autumn of 1934, after the Huiyang County Committee was dismantled, the Zihe Special District Committee lost contact with its superiors and disbanded.
In January 1977, it was designated as a key cultural relic protection unit by the Zijin County Government. In March 2009, it was designated as a patriotic education base by the Zijin County Party Committee and County Government. In November 2010, it was designated as a patriotic education base by the Heyuan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. In June 2011, it was designated as a patriotic education base by the Publicity Department of the Guangdong Provincial Committee.
