Former Site of the Dongjiang Special Committee of the Chinese Communist Party
The Former Site of the Dongjiang Special Committee of the Chinese Communist Party is a cultural relic protection unit of Zijin County, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.
The Former Site of the Dongjiang Special Committee of the Chinese Communist Party is located in the Orange Orchard of Xinwei Village, Guzhu Town, Zijin County.
In October 1938, Japanese forces landed at Daya Bay. In response to the evolving situation, the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CCP decided to establish the Southwest Special Committee, the Dongjiang Special Committee, and the Southeast Special Committee of the CCP to develop party organizations across the province and carry out anti-Japanese guerrilla warfare. In February 1939, the Dongjiang Special Committee of the CCP was officially established in Guzhu (according to the memoirs of Yin Linping and Yu Hui, the Dongjiang Special Committee was founded on April 20, 1939, at the Dongjiang Bookstore on Taiping Street in Heyuan City). Yin Linping served as the secretary, overseeing county committees in Zijin, Wuhua, Longchuan, Heping, Boluo, Haifeng, Lufeng, Zengcheng, and Longmen, as well as the Heyuan County Working Committee. In June 1940, the county committees of Huiyang, Dongguan, and Bao’an, which had previously been under the Southeast Special Committee, were reassigned to the Dongjiang Special Committee. In December 1940, the Northern Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CCP was established, leading to the dissolution of the Dongjiang Special Committee. At the same time, the deputy secretary and head of propaganda of the Western Guangdong Special Committee was dispatched to Longchuan to form the Rear Dongjiang Special Committee of the CCP.
The site was built during the Qing Dynasty, facing southwest from the northeast. It has a total width of 14 meters and a depth of 15 meters, featuring five bays and two courtyards, with wing rooms at both ends. In 1984, the right room of the central hall and all wing rooms were demolished. The structure has a flush gable roof, gray tiles, brick walls, a stone foundation, and stone door frames, making it a traditional earthen-and-wood building. Inside, there are portraits of Chen Linyou, Li Yulou, Lai Ping’an, Li Mengchi, Rao Zhangfeng, Yin Linping, and Rao Weiping. The site was renovated in 2010.
In June 1987, it was designated as a key cultural relic protection unit by the Zijin County Government. In March 1994, it was recognized as a patriotic education base by the Zijin County Party Committee and County Government. In November 1995, it was announced as a patriotic education base by the Heyuan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government.
