Heshui Reservoir Scenic Area

Known as the “Pearl of Eastern Guangdong,” Heshui Reservoir is a renowned tourist destination and has been listed in the (China Famous Scenic Spots Dictionary). It is located at the intersection of the central station of the Meilong Railway and the Xing (Xingning)–Ping (Pingyuan) Highway, 14 kilometers from downtown Xingcheng. Situated at the confluence of the Huangpi River, Luogang River, and Daping River, it is thus named Heshui (meaning “Converging Waters”).

The reservoir was built in 1957. Its majestic main dam stretches like a giant dragon across the landscape. Covering an area of 190,000 mu, it serves as a comprehensive hub for flood control, irrigation, power generation, aquaculture, and tourism within the Ningjiang water network. Lush green mountains surround the area like rolling waves, with peaks covered in emerald foliage. The reservoir itself boasts shimmering blue waters and picturesque scenery, dotted with small islands and leisurely boats. Major attractions include the Wangjiang Tower (River-Watching Tower), Yuanyang Pavilion (Mandarin Duck Pavilion), Lake Heart Pavilion, Flower Pagoda, and Martyrs’ Monument. At the lakeside dock, visitors can take a cruise to enjoy the beautiful lake and mountain views, while at the Heshui Hotel, they can sample seasonal fruits and delicious cuisine. Since its completion, the reservoir has been visited by marshals He Long, Nie Rongzhen, and -San, as well as notable figures such as Tao Zhu, Luo Ruiqing, and Qin Mu.

The scenic area is surrounded by undulating green mountains and peaks that look like they are dripping with emerald hues. The reservoir’s waters are tranquil and shimmering, creating a beautiful setting scattered with small islands and dotted with graceful boats. Key attractions include the Botanical Garden, Wangjiang Tower (River-Watching Tower), Yuanyang Pavilion (Mandarin Duck Pavilion), Lake Heart Pavilion, Flower Pagoda, Monkey Paradise, Martyrs’ Monument, Turtle Pond, and Fishing Platform. There is also the Xinhua Entertainment Center, a multifunctional comprehensive leisure venue integrating vacation, conferences, and banquets.
