Former Residence of He Tianjiong

The former residence of He Tianjiong is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level in Meizhou City.

The former residence of He Tianjiong is located in Xinqun Village, Shimashi Town, Xingning County. It is a traditional Japanese-style building named Wuhēzhāi, also known as Tiānjiǒng Lóu. Built in 1920, it faces south with an area of 250 square meters. The overall structure consists of three buildings with two stories, built from stone with wooden rafters and a tiled roof, housing 2 halls and 8 rooms. In front of the entrance are ancient cypresses planted by He Tianjiong himself and Japanese evergreen cycads.

He Tianjiong (1877–1925), in his youth, was fond of studying and martial arts. During the late Qing Dynasty, he studied in Japan, joined the Tongmenghui (Chinese Revolutionary Alliance), and was later appointed as a full ambassador to Japan. When Sun Yat-sen became president, He was hired as the highest advisor to the presidential office. He remained committed to the revolutionary cause throughout his life. After Sun Yat-sen passed away in 1925, He was overwhelmed with grief and fell ill due to overwork. He died in Guangzhou on July 1 of the same year.

In January 2014, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit by the People's Government of Meizhou City.
