Xingning Wenfeng Pagoda

Xingning Wenfeng Pagoda is a Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Wenfeng Pagoda is located on Changpiling in Wenxing Village, Ningxin Subdistrict Office, Xingning City.

Constructed in the 19th year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty (1814), Xingning Wenfeng Pagoda has a history of over 200 years. Legend has it that before the pagoda was built, Xingning had not produced any successful imperial examination candidates for nearly thirty years. County Magistrate Zhong Zilü believed the region lacked cultural vitality in its landscape and advocated for the construction of this pagoda to promote scholarly achievement.

The main gate of Wenfeng Pagoda faces north. The pagoda has ten stories and is 38.6 meters tall, though some sources cite its total height as 45.8 meters. The base covers an area of 150 square meters. The first and second stories are square, while the upper eight are octagonal, with a gourd-shaped top. Each level features tower openings of various shapes, including square, fan-shaped, and arched.

The stairway inside Wenfeng Pagoda is a winding inner-wall design, with wooden flooring on each level. The design and construction were undertaken by renowned craftsmen from Chaozhou, showcasing a high level of architectural craftsmanship. Each floor has windows, and the entire pagoda features a variety of window designs. Due to damage from wars and natural wear, many windows now only have frames remaining. Floors eight to ten have windows that are emerald green, uniquely shaped, and exquisitely crafted. The pagoda is built from blue bricks, with a solid and dignified structure, and an elegant, graceful form.

Wenfeng Pagoda was listed as a county-level cultural relics protection unit in 1980.

In October 2012, Meizhou’s Xingning Wenfeng Pagoda was designated as part of the seventh batch of Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units.
