Shixiongshan Site

The Shixiongshan Site is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Shixiongshan Site is situated on the southern hillside of Shixiong Mountain in Tagang Village, Huacheng Town, Wuhua County. It belongs to the period of the Southern Yue Kingdom during the Western Han Dynasty and was discovered in 1982. The site spans an area of more than 10,000 square meters. From 1984 to 1990, 768 square meters were excavated. On the eastern platform of the hill, the foundation of a corridor-style palace was revealed. The eastern corridor was constructed along the natural slope of the mountain, sloping from north to south, with a total length of 34 meters, an interior width of 2 meters, and earthen walls on the outer side. These walls vary in height from 0.5 to 1.3 meters, are 1.6 meters wide, and feature a cobblestone-lined drainage surface along the outer edge. Inside the walls are posthole remnants spaced 2 to 2.5 meters apart. The southern corridor has a remaining length of 11 meters, and the northern corridor 17 meters, though their widths are unclear. The three corridors encircle a raised platform, where the main structure has been destroyed. Steps leading up to the platform are found along all corridors. The entire complex covers approximately 1,400 square meters. A large number of rope-patterned roof tiles and cylindrical tiles were unearthed, with bead-like patterns on their inner surfaces. A small number of tile ends were also found, decorated with swirling cloud and arrow motifs, some of which bear the reversed character “定” (Ding) at the center. Pottery items include jars, boxes, bowls, basins, net sinkers, and spinning whorls, often featuring square-grid stamped patterns. Stone tools such as axes and adzes were also recovered, as well as iron spades and bronze arrowheads. Based on the site’s location, the age of the artifacts, and relevant historical records, it is believed to be the “Changle Platform” temporary palace built by Zhao Tuo of the Southern Yue Kingdom.

In June 1989, the Guangdong Provincial People's Government designated it as a cultural relics protection unit. In 2019, the Shixiongshan Site was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Tagang Village: Located in the eastern part of Huacheng Town, Wuhua County, Meizhou City, Tagang Village administers 34 villager groups, with 1,329 registered households and a population of 5,329.
