Longjingkeng Kiln

The Longjingkeng Kiln is located on the southern slope of Laobaitang Mountain at Hezikou in Huacheng Town, Wuhua County. It dates from the Southern Song to the Yuan Dynasty. Discovered in 1992, 230 square meters were excavated in the same year. According to surveys, there are five dragon kilns distributed along the southern slope. One of them is about 35 meters long and 2.2 meters wide, though the kiln structure itself was not cleared. The cultural deposit layer is 0.5 to 1.1 meters thick, and a large number of broken saggers, spacer rings, spacer pads, and kiln bricks were unearthed. Many ceramics were also found inside some of the saggers—these artifacts are deformed, broken, or sintered and stuck to the interior of the saggers. The saggers come in various shapes including funnel-shaped and cylindrical types, as well as sagger lids. The ceramic types include bowls, plates, dishes, saucers, lamp stands, cups, teapots, jars, grinding basins, and vessel lids. Among them, bowls, plates, and saucers are the most common. The pottery is hard and white in color, with glaze colors mainly in celadon hues, including greenish-yellow, green-blue, and blue-white, with a few in soy sauce color. Other items such as earthen jars and roof tiles were also found, likely tools used at the kiln site. It is speculated that the main period of activity for this kiln was during the Southern Song Dynasty, and it was abandoned during the Yuan Dynasty.
