Former Residence of Luo Fuxing

The former residence of Luo Fuxing is a protected cultural heritage site of Guangdong Province.

The former residence of Luo Fuxing is located in Luowu Village, Dadi Village, Lanfang Town, Jiaoling County, Meizhou City, Guangdong Province. It was built during the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty by Luo Yaonan, the grandfather of Luo Fuxing, and faces from the southeast to the northwest. The structure includes a grain courtyard, main hall, and wing rooms, arranged in a four-winged enclosed courtyard layout. It has a total width of 35.20 meters, a total depth of 34.20 meters, a total of 66 rooms, covers an area of approximately 1,204 square meters, and has a construction area of about 1,656 square meters. It features flush gable roofs, gray-tiled roofing, and walls made of rammed earth. The main hall is uniquely constructed by spanning three of the four wing sections on the first floor to form a three-courtyard layout, differing from other wing-style enclosed residences where the main hall aligns with the wing rooms. In November 2012, the residence underwent comprehensive restoration according to its original appearance. The interior displays images, texts, and other content showcasing the glorious life of Luo Fuxing, a patriotic hero who fought for Taiwan’s recovery during the anti-Japanese resistance. In January 2011, it was additionally designated as a provincial-level cultural heritage site by the People's Government of Guangdong Province.

Luo Fuxing (1885–1914) was a patriotic hero who fought against Japan and for Taiwan’s recovery. A native of Dadi Village, Lanfang, he was born in Indonesia and attended an overseas Chinese school in Indonesia at the age of 16. In 1903, he went to Taiwan, and returned to Guangdong in 1906. Later, he joined the Tongmenghui (Chinese Revolutionary Alliance) and participated in both the Huanghuagang Uprising and the Wuchang Uprising. In 1912, he traveled to Taiwan to take part in the uprising for Taiwan’s recovery. In December 1913, he was unfortunately arrested by Japanese forces. In court, he spoke out boldly against Japan’s occupation of Taiwan, declaring that revolutionaries aimed to “restore Taiwan to China.” On March 3, 1914, Luo Fuxing was sentenced to death by hanging by the Japanese invaders. Dadi Village: Dadi Village in Jiaoling County, Meizhou City, administers 19 villager groups, with 810 registered households and a population of 2,655.
