Former Residence of Lin Xiuming
The former residence of Lin Xiuming is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.
The former residence of Lin Xiuming is located in Xiannanshan Village, Xinpu Town, Jiaoling County. Built in the late Qing Dynasty, it faces south. The complex includes an outer gate, enclosing walls, an inner courtyard, the main hall, wing rooms, and an attic, laid out in a two-hall, one-wing, one-attic configuration with a single row of five rooms. It has a total width of 23.5 meters and depth of 29.7 meters, encompassing 31 rooms and occupying a land area of 697.95 square meters, with a built-up area of 532.95 square meters. The lower hall features a carved, gold-lacquered wooden screen decorated with floral, bird, “joy,” and “longevity” motifs, while the upper part of the screen is painted with scenes such as “Two Phoenixes Seeking a Phoenix” and “Promotion in Rank and Title.” The east and west open corridors are supported by traditional beam-style wooden frames with dragon-head corbels. Under the eaves of the upper hall hang wooden transverse screens adorned with patterns like “Five Blessings as One Wishes.” The attic is a two-story structure with wooden flooring and railings. The corridors of the left and right wing rooms are also built with traditional beam-style wooden frameworks. The wooden components of the residence feature highly artistic paintings and exquisitely carved details. Lin Xiuming (1885–1911) was one of the 72 Martyrs of Huanghuagang. In 1905, he joined the Tongmenghui (Chinese Revolutionary Alliance), and in 1910, he was tasked with going to Guangzhou to incite a mutiny among the New Army. After the Lunar New Year the following year, he participated in the March 29th Guangzhou Uprising during the Xinhai Revolution. He was unfortunately shot and killed in fierce battle.
In October 2012, the former residence of Lin Xiuming was designated as part of the seventh batch of Cultural Relic Protection Units of Guangdong Province by the People's Government of Guangdong Province.
