Qingshi Qingyun Pagoda

Qingshi Qingyun Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiaoling County.

Qingshi Qingyun Pagoda is located in Shizhai Village, Nanqi Town, Jiaoling County, Meizhou City, Guangdong Province. According to the Jiaoling County Annals, it was built during the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty. In 1998, the village committee of Shizhai Village funded its renovation. The pagoda faces northwest and is situated southeast, featuring an octagonal layout. It consists of a base and the main body, stands 28 meters tall, has walls 0.95 meters thick, and covers an area of approximately 130 square meters. The main façade features an arched gate, above which is inlaid a marble plaque with the engraved characters “Qingyun Pagoda.” The base is sixteen-sided and paved with lime concrete. The main body has seven levels, with the outer walls tapering upwards. The earthen-plastered walls are coated with lime plaster, and each level has four square windows. Inside, there are wooden staircases and floors; the sixth-floor floor is paved with lime concrete, and the staircase spirals upward. The seventh level is adorned with blue-brick gear-like decorations around the edge, and the pagoda is topped with a gourd-shaped finial. The most unique feature of Qingyun Pagoda is that the entire structure has no eaves, giving it a soaring appearance. Its exquisite craftsmanship and elegant design have earned it the name “Qingyun Pagoda” (Pagoda Soaring into the Clouds). It holds certain value for the study of ancient pagoda architectural culture and craftsmanship in Jiaoling County. In 1985, it was designated as one of the first batch of county-level cultural relic protection units by the Jiaoling County People’s Government.
