Ancient Lu Ting Pagoda

The Ancient Lu Ting Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Meizhou City.

The Ancient Lu Ting Pagoda is located in Hongxing Village, Wenfu Town, Jiaoling County, Meizhou City, Guangdong Province. According to the *Jiaoling County Annals* (first edition, October 1992), it was initially built in the 22nd year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty (1817) and completed in the 3rd year of the Daoguang reign (1823). It faces north and consists of an enclosing wall, a base, and the pagoda body, featuring an octagonal layout. The overall width is 12.61 meters, the depth is 12.61 meters, the total height is approximately 32.6 meters, the wall thickness is about 1.85 meters, the land area is around 159 square meters, and the building footprint is about 67 square meters. The base is octagonal, about 0.6 meters high, paved with lime-soil mixture. The pagoda body has seven levels, standing approximately 30 meters tall, constructed with rammed lime-soil walls and coated with lime plaster on the exterior. The outer walls taper upward by level, with the pagoda gate being a stone arched opening. Each level has four square windows, and the exterior features six raised ridges between levels, with the third ridge from the top being serrated. Inside, there are wooden floors and a spiral staircase made of blue bricks and lime plaster, totaling 112 steps. The seventh level has a low surrounding wall for visitors to enjoy the view. The pagoda top is adorned with a gourd-shaped finial about 2 meters high. The enclosing wall is built with a mixture of lime-soil and stones in an octagonal shape surrounding the pagoda. This pagoda is exquisitely constructed and beautifully shaped, holding certain value for the study of ancient pagoda architectural culture and craftsmanship in Jiaoling County. In 1985, it was designated as a county-level cultural relic protection unit by the Jiaoling County People's Government, and in January 2014, it was announced as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit by the Meizhou Municipal People's Government.
