The former residence of Ye Jianying is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, a Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit, and a classic red tourism site.

The former residence of Ye Jianying is situated in Yanshang Village, Yan Yang Town, Meixian District. Constructed during the Qing Dynasty, it is a mud-brick farmhouse that is part of the Hakka walled village architecture in eastern Guangdong. The structure faces west-southwest. There are 15 rooms in total within the walled compound, and the two rooms at the back left corner were Ye’s living quarters in his youth. The courtyard is neat and tranquil, with verdant mountains in the distance and lush farmland all around, offering a beautiful environment. On April 28, 1897, Ye Jianying was born here and spent his childhood.

The former residence of Marshal Ye Jianying is located in Yanshang Village, Yan Yang Town, Meixian District, approximately 33 kilometers from downtown Meizhou. It is an ordinary farmhouse that represents a typical Hakka walled village. The interior of the residence is simply furnished, with items such as the bedboards and desks once used by Ye Jianying. In 1989, it was designated as a key cultural relics protection unit of Guangdong Province.

To commemorate the glorious achievements of Marshal Ye Jianying, a great proletarian revolutionary and military strategist, fellow villagers from home and abroad contributed funds to build the “Marshal Ye Jianying Memorial Hall” next to the former residence. The memorial hall has five exhibition rooms displaying 200 precious photos of Marshal Ye and 50 objects he used during his lifetime. A 2-meter-tall bronze statue of Marshal Ye stands in front of the building.

Ye Jianying (1897–1986), originally named Ye Yiwei, courtesy name Cangbai, was a native of Meixian. He was a great proletarian revolutionary, statesman, and military strategist in China. As one of the founders of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and a marshal of the People’s Republic of China, he was also an outstanding leader of the Communist Party of China, the People’s Republic of China, and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
