Jiji Building

Situated in Chengjiang Town, Meixian District, Guangdong Province, the two-story "Jiji Building" is a pillow-style walled dragon house with three halls, one pillow beam, and six wings—also called a "four-block, six-wing" structure. It spans 96 meters from north to south and 105 meters from east to west, and includes 235 rooms, 20 halls, 18 courtyards, with a total built-up area of 10,800 square meters. The Jiji Building features tall stone and concrete pillars, wooden or concrete windows and doors, courtyards edged with stone slabs, and red brick flooring in the halls. Its carved beams and painted rafters give the building a majestic yet elegant appearance, blending tradition with freshness. As a quintessential example of Hakka architecture from the 1930s, this building itself is a valuable and study-worthy residence of a wealthy Hakka family, and represents a rare and resonant find for scholars—especially young urbanites—researching Hakka culture.

Currently, the center is divided into eight exhibition areas: Area 1 showcases Hakka origins, Hakka history, and the Hundred Family Surnames; Area 2 displays wood and root carvings; Area 3 features water wheel kiln pottery and ancient ceramics on the first floor, and Cultural Revolution-era collectibles on the second floor; Area 4 exhibits Ming and Qing dynasty furniture; Area 5 displays porcelain; Area 6 features Hakka daily life utensils; Area 7 includes ancient clocks and miscellaneous items; and Area 8 presents Hakka clothing, embroidery on the first floor, and calligraphy and paintings on the second floor. The collections include over a million items. The establishment of the Meixian Hakka Culture Expo Center has filled a cultural gap in Meixian’s market, becoming a highlight of the "Cultural Meizhou" landscape.

Chengjiang Town: Chengjiang Town is located in the development zone of Meixian’s new county town. It derives its name from the confluence of the lower reaches of the Cheng River with the Mei River here, forming the Chengjiang Plain. It borders Xincheng Subdistrict to the east, Fuda and Nankou towns to the west, overlooks the urban area of Meizhou to the south, and neighbors Meijiang District to the north. The town covers a total area of 54 square kilometers. Both ends of the town feature mostly hills, interspersed with low mountains, plains, and mountainous terrain, naturally forming three major zones: the plain, Chengxi, and others. The arable land area is 9,537 mu, and forested mountainous area spans 42,800 mu.
