Hezizhi Pottery Kiln

The Hezizhi Pottery Kiln is located in Hezizhi, Dahu Village, Shejiang Town, Meixian District. It dates back to the late Neolithic Age. In 1981, a trial excavation was carried out, during which a beehive-shaped kiln was cleared. The kiln faces south and extends upward along the slope of the hill. It has an arched wall, with a remaining height of 1 meter and a thickness ranging from 2 cm to 10 cm. The kiln chamber is wider at the top and narrower at the bottom; the lower end has been damaged, with the widest remaining part measuring 1 meter, the narrowest 0.4 meters, and a total length of 2.2 meters. Charred soil remains inside the kiln, and a small number of pottery fragments were unearthed. The decorative patterns include curvilinear and checkerboard designs. The firing temperature was low, resulting in relatively soft pottery.
