Tonghuai Villa

Tonghuai Villa is a cultural relic protection unit of Meizhou City.

Tonghuai Villa is located in Jinxing Village, Songyuan Town, Meixian District, Meizhou City, Guangdong Province. Built during the Republic of China period, it is an important modern historical site and representative architecture.

Tonghuai Villa once served as the headquarters and front committee office of the Fourth Red Army, and was also the site where the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China's September Letter was conveyed.

From October 19 to 21, 1929, Commander Zhu De of the Fourth Red Army, Commander Lin Biao of the First Column, and Chief of Staff Zhu Yunqing led over 6,000 troops from the First, Second, and Third Columns of the Fourth Red Army on a three-pronged offensive into Songyuan at the border of eastern Guangdong, Fujian, and Jiangxi. Their first incursion into Guangdong achieved a major victory. The Fourth Red Army was stationed across various villages in Songyuan, with the front committee office and command post set up at Tonghuai Villa. On October 22, 1929, Chen Yi was the first to convey the Central Committee’s “September Letter” at a meeting held in Tonghuai Villa, calling for Comrade Mao Zedong to resume his position as Secretary of the Front Committee of the Fourth Red Army.
