Former Residence of Luo Fangbo

The former residence of Luo Fangbo is a Meizhou Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The former residence of Luo Fangbo is located in Xinan Village, Shishan Town, Meixian District, Meizhou City. Dating back to the Qing Dynasty, it is classified as an ancient architectural structure.

On March 13, 2020, the People's Government of Meizhou City designated it as part of the seventh batch of Meizhou Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Units.

(1738–1795)

Luo Fangbo, originally named Fangbai and commonly known as Elder Brother Luo, was a native of Xinan Village, Shishan, Meixian. Born in February of the third year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (March 1738), he came from a family that balanced farming with scholarly pursuits.

As a youth, he was described as having “extraordinary spirit, a bold and generous character, and a particular fondness for making friends.” He “surpassed other children in both literary and martial studies” and “often assisted with farming and herding in his spare time after practicing calligraphy and swordplay. Diligent in all endeavors, he earned praise from his fellow villagers.” In adulthood, unable to succeed in the scholarly path and unwilling to spend his life confined to his hometown, “he harbored ambitions for great journeys,” aspiring to venture abroad to Southeast Asia to build a career.
