Victoria Botanical Gardens

The Victoria Botanical Gardens (Victoria Botanical Gardens) are also known as the Mont Fleuri Botanical Gardens Seychelles. They were founded in 1901 by Mr. Paul Evenor Rivalz Dupont, then Director of the Agricultural and Natural Resources Service of Seychelles. Today, the gardens are managed by the Seychelles Ministry of Environment, which oversees their operations, including the introduction and cultivation of new plant species.

The Victoria Botanical Gardens are one of the main attractions in Victoria. The gardens are home to a wide variety of rare plants native to the Seychelles archipelago, including over 80 species of plants found nowhere else in the world—such as tall hardwood trees, white phoenix orchids, unique pitcher plants, extremely rare jellyfish trees, and the national treasure of Seychelles, the coco de mer palm. Among them, the phoenix orchid has been designated as the national flower and, since 1971, has been protected by law against being taken out of the country. The gardens also house several rare animals for visitors to observe, such as giant tortoises brought from Aldabra Atoll and the Seychelles’ endemic flying fox with an orange chest. Nature and animal lovers will be truly delighted here.
