Rabat Archaeological Museum
The Rabat Archaeological Museum is located in the capital city of Rabat, Morocco. It opened to the public in 1932 and is the largest archaeological museum in Morocco, housing the country's most extensive collection of archaeological artifacts. The first floor of the museum displays prehistoric stone tools, including exhibits of tools, axes, swords, pottery, altars, sarcophagi, stone pillars, as well as some tombs and stone carvings.
The Rabat Archaeological Museum also contains artifacts from the Acheulean culture dating back to 4000 BCE, as well as the oldest human remains in Morocco. The terrace section of the museum showcases some of Morocco’s finest inscriptions, such as those carved on tombstones — the content and script of which can be used to determine the period and age of the graves. In addition, the museum houses coins, pottery from the early and middle Islamic periods, and a plate dating back to the 14th century.
