Kasbah of the Udayas

The Kasbah of the Udayas is an ancient fortress located in the Moroccan city of Rabat. It was built during the Almohad dynasty and suffered damage during the occupation of Rabat, undergoing restoration between the years 544 and 1150.

Perched on the cliffs of the Atlantic Ocean, the Kasbah’s gate is one of the finest examples of Almohad-era architecture, featuring delicate bas-reliefs on its earthen-red walls that are both unique and pleasing to the eye. A short walk from the gate leads to an observation deck with panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. This platform once served as a strategic military post to guard the mouth of the Bou Regreg River. In 2006, the Kasbah of the Udayas was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.
