Shagha Town

Shagha Town is situated on a highland, overlooking the fertile plains. Before Numidia was annexed by Rome, Shagha was the capital of the powerful Libyan-Carthaginian state. It flourished under Roman and Byzantine rule but gradually declined during the Islamic period. The ruins we can see today reflect to some extent the appearance of a Roman town on the edge of the empire.
