Ancient Temple on Yinshan Mountain in Ulanqab

Located about 100 kilometers north of Hohhot, it is one of the many temples scattered across the vast Mongolian grasslands. Surrounded by boundless grassland, the majestic structure stands out against the blue sky and green fields, resembling an exquisite pattern embroidered on a green silk tapestry. Although not very large, the Ancient Temple on Yinshan Mountain consists of just a few halls, but its architecture is exquisitely delicate and resplendent with gold and color. The main hall is built on a square, solid platform, with the building rising two stories high and its upturned eaves slightly curved. Red pillars and corridors feature intricately carved and colorfully painted capitals. On both sides of the temple gate are murals, while the interior is even more richly adorned with paintings—on the walls, beams, and curtains—all featuring vibrant hues that remain vivid and unfading over time. The subjects depicted include not only Buddhist figures and stories, but also birds, animals, and flowers, all rendered in lively and graceful forms.
