Kraków Old Town

Introduction to Attractions   Every hour, a trumpeter plays a traditional tune from the church tower. According to records, this tradition commemorates a medieval trumpeter who faithfully performed his duty and was killed while warning the city of an invasion. In the 14th century, merchants traded various woolen goods here and built a specialized crafts trading hall in this spacious and beautiful square. It was later rebuilt during the Renaissance period. Currently, the ground floor of the hall houses souvenir shops, and the second floor is a gallery of the National Museum, displaying works by painters from the 18th to 19th centuries. Highlights   The Kraków Old Town was once the city center in ancient times, known as the “Main Market.” A Gothic tower that once served as the town hall now houses the Historical Museum. The Old Town is also home to the famous St. Mary's Basilica. This is one of Poland’s most beautiful examples of Gothic architecture, standing at 81 meters tall. Inside, there are many precious works of art.
