Attraction Introduction
Auschwitz is a small town in southern Poland with a population of just over 40,000. During World War II, the German fascists established their largest concentration camp here, making the town world-famous. At that time, the area controlled by the Nazi Auschwitz concentration camp administration covered 40 square kilometers, including three camps: Auschwitz I, Birkenau (Brzezinka), and Monowitz. The Monowitz camp further included 40 smaller subcamps scattered throughout the Silesia region of southern Poland. Highlights: Since World War II, when the Germans set up the concentration camp here and took countless innocent lives, Auschwitz has become the most historically significant site in Poland.
