Pieniny National Park

Pieniny National Park is a protected area located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in southern Poland, adjacent to Slovakia, in the central part of the Pieniny mountain range. The national park was established in 1932, covering an area of 23.46 square kilometers, of which 13.11 square kilometers are forested.

Pieniny National Park boasts exceptionally rich plant diversity, with 167 species of alpine flora, including two endemic varieties: Pieniny wallflower and Pieniny dandelion. There are many orchids here, and in the lowland areas, you can also find a beautiful broad-leaved plant: Veratrum lobelianum (Alpine Hellebore). June is the best time to view the flowering plants of Pieniny National Park. While large mammals are not abundant in the park, the lowland areas are famous for their abundant butterfly population, most notably the Apollo butterfly (Parnassius apollo), which is found only here.

Pieniny National Park features over ten kilometers of hiking trails, with the most popular ones leading to Trzy Korony (Three Crowns) Mountain at 982 meters above sea level and Sokolica Mountain at 747 meters. From the viewing platform on Trzy Korony, you can enjoy unexpectedly stunning views, including the Dunajec Gorge, the Tatra Mountains, the Gorce Mountains, and the Beskid Sądecki region. Among these, the Dunajec Gorge is one of the most beautiful river valleys in Europe, and rafting here is the most popular activity in Pieniny.
