Gorce National Park

Gorce National Park is situated in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in southern Poland, encompassing the central and northeastern regions of the Gorce Mountains. Founded in 1981, the park originally covered an area of only 23.9 square kilometers, but it has now grown to 70.3 square kilometers, of which 65.91 square kilometers are forested. It attracts a large number of nature-loving visitors all year round.

The Gorce Mountain area features undulating peaks and valleys, as well as small caves, with the highest peak being Turbacz at an elevation of 1,310 meters. The park’s water bodies account for 0.18 square kilometers, consisting not of lakes or major rivers but of gently flowing streams. Gorce National Park is a typical mountainous forest park, home to over a hundred plant species, primarily highland and subalpine flora growing in natural environments. Forests cover 95% of the park, with common species including spruce on the upper slopes, and beech and fir trees on the lower slopes. The park also hosts a variety of wildlife, mainly birds and mammals such as lynxes, wolves, bears, frogs, snakes, and salamanders, with the salamander recognized as the symbol of Gorce National Park.
