Petra's Gorge

Also known as Luxembourg Gorge, Petra's Gorge is one of the world's most renowned scenic spots. Approximately 100 meters wide and 60 meters deep, it naturally divides Luxembourg City into the northern and southern sections — the new and old districts.

Constitution Square is the best place to view the gorge and the landscapes on both sides. Across from the gorge sits a majestic, palace-like building set amidst lush greenery — it’s the Luxembourg National Savings Bank. At its northern end stands a tall, pointed round clock tower, flanked by medieval buildings whose roofs are all that are visible.

Today, Petra's Gorge has become a beautiful tourist destination in Europe. From any of the bridges spanning the gorge, visitors can gaze upon the dense, towering trees growing on both cliffs. The area boasts a rich variety of tree species growing in different directions, which further highlights the unrestrained natural beauty of Petra's Gorge. On the Constitution Square side adjacent to the gorge, ancient stone steps lead down into the valley. As you descend along these steps, a stream, hidden among the thick foliage, comes into view. The clear waters rush along the bottom of the gorge, and viewing the valley in misty weather only amplifies its grandeur.
