Luxembourg Constitution Square

Constitution Square is located in Luxembourg’s old town, not far from the Adolphe Bridge. The most prominent landmark is the Monument of the Dead, which commemorates Luxembourg soldiers who died in World War I. At the two corners of the square stand the underground entrances to the Fort Thüngen and Fort Berlaimont, while facing the square is the Notre-Dame Cathedral.

The “Monument of the Dead” in Constitution Square was completed in 1923. It was originally built to honor the 3,000 Luxembourg soldiers who lost their lives in World War I, and was later reconstructed after being destroyed in World War II, giving it a dual significance. The monument stands 12 meters tall and is an obelisk-shaped structure, topped with a statue of the goddess of victory symbolizing triumph. The statue was created by local artist Claus. From the square, you can look across the river to see the Adolphe Bridge and many beautiful buildings, making it an excellent vantage point to view the combination of the gorge, bridges, and castle.
