Grand Ducal Palace

An ancient building in the Spanish style. With its simple lines and elegant yet understated decorations, it appears quite modest and unpretentious compared to the grand palaces of other European countries. This is where the Grand Duke of Luxembourg works and resides. Located north of Notre-Dame Cathedral, it was built in 1244. Successive rulers of Luxembourg used this place as their residence when visiting, and it did not officially become the Grand Ducal Palace until 1890, when Luxembourg had its own Grand Duke, Adolphe. The building has been restored many times throughout history. The original town hall, which was destroyed by a great fire in 1554, was also connected to it to form a single complex and was later rebuilt by its Spanish rulers. The style of the Grand Ducal Palace is influenced by Italian Renaissance, and its interior is exquisitely decorated, especially the main hall, the King’s rooms, and the banquet hall. The Grand Ducal Palace holds a changing of the guard ceremony at the Palace Guard at 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00, and 18:00 every day.
