Kelvingrove Art Gallery
Introduction The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum features architecture reminiscent of a Victorian church. Built in 1902, the gallery houses a significant collection of Scottish and European artworks. These include works by Arthur Melville, McTaggart, Cadell, Joseph Crawhill, as well as modern artists such as Eduardo Paolozzi, Bruce McLean, David Hockney, and Jasper Johns.
Other oil paintings in the collection include Rembrandt’s famous work Man in Armour, along with pieces by Botticelli, Impressionist master Claude Monet, expressive painter Vincent van Gogh, and Cubist artist Pablo Picasso. One end of the central hall is adorned with organ pipes, as solo recitals are a staple event here. A section of the museum is dedicated to Scotland’s natural history. The lower floor displays a variety of interesting artifacts, including archaeological finds from prehistoric Scotland, European weapons and armor, and silverware.
