Introduction Paisley is located in the western suburbs of Glasgow. This town is famous for the Paisley Pattern and is the actual hometown where the designer Paisley grew up. The Paisley Pattern is a type of tweed fabric adorned with tear-drop or pinecone-shaped motifs made up of swirling patterns. Its design concept originates from a square shawl brought back from India. The town became a major center for dyeing cotton and wool fabrics in the 19th century and was once the world’s largest producer of cotton thread.

Here, the Coats Observatory showcases all astronomical, seismic, weather, and climate records monitored since 1882. You can also visit Paisley Abbey, the University of Paisley, as well as museums and art galleries. There are many interesting exhibits about the history of Paisley shawls and the Paisley pattern, along with collections on local history, natural history, pottery, and 19th-century Scottish art.
