The You Song Wang is located in Narisong Town, Jungar Banner. According to measurements by experts from the Chinese Academy of Forestry in 1979, this giant Chinese pine stands 26 meters tall, with a diameter at breast height of 1.34 meters, a timber volume of 13.5 cubic meters, and an age of 893 years. An expert from the Chinese Academy of Sciences once praised it, saying: “Among the vast forests of the Greater Khingan Mountains, there is no king, but in Jungar Banner, one tree reigns supreme.” Based on its age,

the tree is believed to have naturally grown during the Xining era of Emperor Shenzong of the Northern Song Dynasty, making it the oldest living Chinese pine discovered in China to date, hence its name “You Song Wang” (King of Chinese Pine). In 1996, it was designated as a key cultural relic protection unit at the autonomous region level. The You Song Wang grows on a sandy loess ridge characterized by arid conditions, scarce rainfall, undulating hills, and sparse vegetation. Amidst this barren landscape, the towering, lush green Chinese pine stands out dramatically, creating a striking contrast that adds to its air of mystery. Locals regard it as a “sacred tree,” worshiping it year-round with continuous chanting and flourishing incense offerings. Every year on the 13th day of the fifth lunar month and the 15th day of the seventh lunar month, temple fairs for the You Song Wang are held, attracting throngs of visitors from far and wide, creating an unprecedentedly lively scene. Approximately 100 meters north of the You Song Wang grows an ancient cypress. Surrounding these two trees is a large temple complex divided into front and rear courtyards. The front courtyard houses the Three Sovereigns Temple, while the rear courtyard includes the Pine King Temple, the Medicine King Temple, scripture halls, and an altar.

Narisong Town: I. Basic Information

Narisong Town is located in the southwestern part of Jungar Banner. It borders Shagadu Town to the east, adjoins Miaogoumen Town and Dachanghan Township of Fugu County, Shaanxi Province, to the south, connects with Xinmiao Town of Yijinhuoluo Banner to the west, and links to Nuanshui Township to the north. Its geographical coordinates are between 110°19′15″–111°50′ east longitude and 39°15′38″–39°24′02″ north latitude. The town covers a total area of 838 square kilometers, governs 19 villages and 201 cooperatives, and has a resident population of 24,000 along with 27,000 migrant workers.
