Introduction Founded in 1892, York Art Gallery houses a rich collection of works by local York artists as well as fine art pieces from Western Europe spanning the past six centuries. Among the paintings are works by renowned British watercolourists such as Turner, Cotman, and Rowlandson, as well as works by William Etty, a York-born nude painter.
