Zurich Zoo is located in Zurichberg, about 3.5 kilometers from the city center, in a picturesque and lush green setting. It is home to over 2,000 animals from around the world, including many from Africa and Asia, as well as a large number from South America.

Zurich Zoo is an open-range zoo situated at an altitude of about 800 meters, where animals are kept in environments that closely resemble their natural habitats. The high-altitude plateaus of the Andes, the Himalayas, moist Asian regions, and South American cloud and rainforests form the natural landscapes of the zoo, home to species such as vicuñas, red pandas, sarus cranes, spectacled bears, and woolly monkeys.

Opened to the public in 1929, Zurich Zoo is one of the best zoos in Europe. Its uniquely designed enclosures house tropical rainforest birds, apes, reptiles, and other animals, all living in environments modeled after their natural habitats. A newly opened open-air enclosure allows visitors to observe bears and coatis, making it another highlight of the zoo. In 2002, Zurich Zoo showcased snow leopards, attracting many visitors eager to catch a glimpse of these majestic animals.
