Fotomuseum Winterthur is located in the city of Winterthur, in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland. Established in 1993, it is dedicated to the collection and exhibition of photography as a unique art form, showcasing the world through the lens. Thanks to its collaboration with the Swiss Foundation for Photography, an unparalleled hub of outstanding European photographic art was established.

Fotomuseum Winterthur is housed in a converted factory and features both temporary and permanent exhibitions displaying modern and classical photography. At the Applied Photography Museum — a center highlighting historical, cultural, and social significance — you can view police photographs, industrial snapshots, dam construction images, and medical photos. The permanent exhibition includes a hall dedicated to contemporary artists’ photography, featuring works by Lewis Baltz, William Eggleston, Nan Goldin, and many others. Additionally, the museum also serves as a classic photography museum, showcasing masterpieces by 19th and 20th-century photography greats such as Bill Brandt and Dorothea Lange.

The Swiss Foundation for Photography, founded in 1971, is committed to the preservation, discovery, and promotion of photographic works. The foundation manages an archive and an exhibition that, to date, includes over 30 bequests and approximately 30,000 photographic originals by outstanding photographers.
