Birmensdorf is a city in northern Switzerland, governed by the canton of Zurich. It was first mentioned in 876 and is situated in a river valley at an elevation of 518 meters. It is home to the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL).

Its proximity to other major cities and convenient transportation give Birmensdorf a prime location, making it an excellent destination to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy a peaceful life. The area bears traces of Stone Age human settlements, indicating a long history. St. Martin's Church dates back to the 9th century and features Romanesque architecture. A Romanesque bell tower was added in the 19th century and remains well-preserved, while a Gothic choir was added in the 14th century.
