Horqin Grassland

Introduction The Horqin Grassland is located in the eastern part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, at the northwest end of the Songliao Plain. It includes the entire Hinggan League and parts of Tongliao City, bordering the Xilingol Grassland to the north and the Hulunbuir Grassland to the east. The area is vast and rich in resources, featuring large expanses of natural pasture. In Mongolian, "Horqin" means "famous archer." The Horqin Grassland mainly produces Horqin Red Cattle and Hinggan Fine Wool Sheep. The region is abundant in water resources, with 240 rivers of various sizes including the Chao'er River, Tao'er River, Guiliu River, and Huolin River, as well as over 20 large and medium-sized reservoirs such as Molimiao, Hanggali, and Charsen. As a result, a variety of freshwater fish are also produced here. The Horqin Grassland has a long history, and existing historical sites include Liao Dynasty ancient cities, the Jin Dynasty border fortifications, the former site of the meeting place of the Ten Banners of Horqin, and numerous temples and stupas. National and regional protected areas such as Daqinggou, Hanshan, and the Horqin Grassland Wetland Nature Reserve are all located within the Horqin Grassland.
